Ms. Barbara Jane Knisley Beis, 90, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. Born in Dayton, OH, on August 16, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Ward Knisley, Sr. and Margaret Mary Duff Knisley.
A devoted Catholic and active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ms. Beis spent much of her life caring for others as a nurse with The American Red Cross for over 25 years until her retirement and later becoming a volunteer at Providence Hospital. Ms. Barbara loved to travel with her friends and family, especially enjoying trips to the ocean. She was an avid tennis player at Rockridge Country Club for many happy family orientated years.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary O. Ebert (John), of Saginaw, MI, Julie B. Wilson (Hugh), of Columbia, SC, Amy B. Gruver (Greg), of Williamsburg, VA; son, George Christian Beis (Carol), of Columbia, SC; seven grandchildren, Lynne and Chris Ebert, Mary and Jake Wilson, Elizabeth Elgin, Ian and Alec Gruver; three great-grandchildren, Camron, Eva, and Colton; brother, Andrew Ward Knisley, Jr. (Clara), of Eleryia, OH; along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Barbara was preceded in death by her son, John Thomas Beis, Jr.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Barbara's care giver, friend, personal stylist, and surrogate daughter, Jeri Collins, and to Regina Wiley for her companionship.
A graveside service for Ms. Beis will be held 3:30 o'clock, Monday, March 29, 2021, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Columbarium, 3600 Devine St., Columbia, SC 29205, with The Rev. Monsignor Richard D. Harris officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
