Mrs. Billie Kay Stowell's Obituary

Billie Kay Stowell, 84, went to be with the Lord shortly before sunrise Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. Born in Sandy Creek-Lacona, New York, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur and Nina Van Gieson.

Billie graduated from Sandy Creek High School and later earned her associate degree in business. In Columbia, she worked with Colonial Life then the SC Employment Security Commission, now SCDEW, from which she later retired. She volunteered in many school PTA programs and was a charter member of the original Baptist Hospital Hospice Program, serving as Secretary of the Steering Committee and assisting families. She enjoyed writing poems, gardening, and needlework. Her loved ones cherish memories of her joyful personality and grateful, generous spirit.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda Robbins, Beth Swindler (Terry), and Susan Bouknight (Guy); grandchildren, John W. Robbins (Alicia), James P. Robbins (Brittany), Justin Swindler and Alex Powell; great-grandchildren, Paisley, Owen, and Mason Robbins and Scarlett Bouknight; and sister, Mina Whitmore. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband, Wesley Stowell, Jr.; son-in-law, John P. Robbins; sisters, Hannah Murray, Mary Synder, and Lenora Gustavson.

Billie was a dedicated member of Northeast Presbyterian Church where she served as a Prayer Line Warrior for many years. The memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock on Friday, April 29th, at Northeast Presbyterian Church, 601 Polo Road Columbia, SC 29223. The family will receive friends in the atrium beginning at 1 o'clock. Interment to follow at the church memory garden. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Northeast Presbyterian Church or the Sjogren's Foundation at sjogrens.org.
