Rev. Elbert D. Hutto, 81, of Columbia, died Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Born in Blackville, SC on March 21, 1933, he was a son of the late Telfair and Bertha Weeks Hutto. Rev. Hutto graduated from Furman University and attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He was a Baptist preacher for 60 years and last pastored for 22 years at Eastside Baptist Church, Columbia, SC. He enjoyed beekeeping, clock making, bird watching and gardening.
Rev. Hutto is survived by his wife, Flora Lou Franklin Hutto; sons, Dale (Debbie) Hutto of Gaston and Eric (Dana) Hutto of Columbia; grandchildren, Aimee (Jason) Lutz, Andrew (Liz) Hutto, and Sarah Hutto; one great grandchild, MJ Lutz; sisters, Theresa Hutto of Blackville, SC, and Verna Mae Davis of Norway, SC; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Marvin and Gerald Hutto.
A funeral service for Rev. Hutto will be held at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, on Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11:00 am. The Reverend Ron Bryan and the Reverend Dennis Letts will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
