Obituary

On Monday, May 8, 2023, Ella Margarie "Nanny" Lever passed away at the age of 105. Margarie was born on June 16, 1917, in White Rock, SC to the late William Robert Eleazer and Mattie Ella Wessinger Eleazer. She was baptized at Mt. Vernon Lutheran Church in White Rock, SC on July 18, 1918. She joined Bethel Church at White Rock in the 8th grade and lastly became a lifetime member of Ascension Lutheran Church in 1937. She graduated from Chapin High School in 1936. The year after she graduated, she took classes in home economics, shorthand & typing.

She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, David Smith Lever; her children Judith "Judy" Kay Dry, William Richard "Dick" Lever, her son-in-law James "Jim" Franklin Dry, her grandson-in-law Steven "Brad" Bryant, six of her siblings and eleven half siblings. She is survived by her sister Helen Rebecca Eleazer, her children David "Pete" Smith Lever Jr., and Timothy "Tim" Michael Lever (Valerie), her daughter-in-law Norma Overcash; her grandchildren, Tina Armour (Lewis), Mike Lever (Holly), Teri Gamble (Billy), Angela Bryant, Tracy Lever, Brent Lever (Lisa), and Margarie Lever. She will also be greatly missed by her great grandchildren, Amber Giles (Justin), Ashley Mixon (Troy), Nicole "Nikki" Lever, Cory Lever (Brianna), McKenzie Lever, Zackary Bryant (Jennifer), Mattie Gamble, Madison Bryant, Michael Gamble, William Gamble, Jennings Bryant, and Reece Lever; as well as her great-great grandchildren Ford Giles, Ella-Grace Giles, & Ava Mixon. She will be remembered by her nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

As a teen, her first job was assisting the elderly at the Lowman home. She later got a job as a secretary at Ideal Plumbing Co. and Wilbur Smith & Associates. She finished her career at S&H Green Stamps Store. She faithfully served her church by preparing communion for many years. She was active in their leisure time group, outreach committee, and Sunday school. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidering, canning vegetables, & spending time with her loved ones. Her biggest passion in life was preparing and cooking meals for her family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Generations of Irmo for their compassionate and devoted care of Nanny, for the past 5 years. The family would also like to thank Three Oaks Hospice for their kind and comforting care during her final days.

The funeral service for Mrs. Lever will be held at 2 o'clock, Sunday, May 14th, at Ascension Lutheran Church, 827 Wildwood Avenue, Columbia, SC with Rev. Jackie Utley officiating. Interment will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Rd, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 1 o'clock in the fellowship hall at Ascension Lutheran Church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
