Essie Richardson Tucker, 92, widow of Claude Tucker, of Lugoff, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Born in Richland County, SC on July 5, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Walter E. and Allie Neely Richardson. Mrs. Tucker retired from the SC Department of Mental Health. She was a longtime member of Spears Creek Baptist Church, having joined in 1944, where she was also a member of the Rejoicer's Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her daughter, Claudette Rease Schad of Lugoff; sons, Larry E. Tucker of Elgin, and Clifford T. Tucker of Lugoff; a sister, Ollie Campbell of Lugoff; brother, J.D. Richardson, of Lugoff; nine grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Ennis and Rufus Richardson.

The funeral service for Mrs. Tucker will be held at 3 o'clock, Saturday, April 5th at Spears Creek Baptist Church with The Rev. Greg Sweet officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Tucker will be placed in the church for viewing one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Friday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
