Fred Mize Stanton, 84, of Columbia, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Born in Clover, South Carolina on August 31, 1938, he was a son of the late Thomas William Stanton and Helen Withers Stanton.

Fred was the loving husband of 59 years to Jewel "Diane" Stillwell Stanton. He was a graduate of Clover High School and earned his associate degree in business management from Columbia Commercial College. Fred was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan and loved all things sports related. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and staying active. If you asked Fred his religion, he would tell you it was golf. He took great pride being a grandfather and spending time with his family. Fred was a funny, caring man who is dearly loved and will be missed by many.

Survivors include his children, Stanley Mize Stanton, Stephen Mark Stanton (Kelly), Stuart Michael Stanton, and Sherri Stanton Davis (Tommy); grandchildren, Eric Mize Stanton, Ali-Morgan Stanton, Jacob Miller Stanton, Joseph Parker Stanton (Reese), Jackson Mize Stanton, Katelyn Diane Davis, Caitlin Brook Yaworski; great granddaughter, Willow Grey Yaworski; siblings, Sylvia Thomas Stanton (Lonnie), William "Bill" Edward Stanton (Beth), James Steven Stanton (Phyllis), and Margaret Elizabeth Boyd (Robbie); sister-in-law, Kay Stanton; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by siblings, Sarah Anne Adams (Gerald) and Luther Earl Stanton.

The memorial service for Mr. Stanton will be held at 4 o'clock on Saturday, May 6th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 3 o'clock.
