Goldie Lee Harmon, 89, of Elgin, died Monday, November 20, 2023. Born December 29, 1933, in Chapin, SC, he was a son of the late Johnnie Pressley Harmon, Sr. and Evelyn Alewine Harmon.
Lovingly known as "Papa" to anyone who knew him, Goldie was always active in family, church and gatherings of friends. He was present at any family event whether it was a baseball game, musical or a good meal. He always supported his family in any way he could. Goldie was an active member in church activities holding different positions as needed. He rarely missed a Sunday. Goldie had a beautiful spirit and lived his life for the Lord. He was only a phone call or short distance away for friends. He was always ready and willing to help. His love of God and service to the Lord was evident in all his endeavors. He never met a stranger. Goldie was easy to love. Goldie gave much of his time in the work force to support his treasured family. His work history included Capital Electric Supply as Senior Vice President for over 37 years. After retirement, he joined the family business until he was 84. His unrivaled work ethic permeated every aspect of his life.
Survivors include his wife, Delores Smith Harmon; sons, Goldie Lee Harmon, Jr. (Karen) of Elgin and Phillip Gregory Harmon (Susan) of Lexington, SC; daughter, Melissa Harmon Gardner (Tommy) of Columbia; granddaughter, Christie Harmon Melton (Mitch). He also leaves behind an additional seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and his sister, Edith Janelle Pedings (Johnny). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Pressley "JP", Travis Ray, Albert Linwood, and Emerson Berkley Harmon.
The funeral service for Mr. Harmon will be held at 1 o'clock, Saturday, November 25th at Living Springs Lutheran Church, 4224 Hardscrabble Road, Columbia, SC with Rev. Eric E. Fink officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Rd, Columbia, SC.
The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church fellowship hall beginning at 11:30 o'clock.
Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
