Harvey Watts, 79, of Batesburg, died Monday, June 17, 2013. Born November 11, 1933, in Lexington, he was a son of the late Louis Douglas and Maggie Furtick Watts. Harvey was a 43 year employee of Springs Mills in Columbia, a former member of Jackson Creek Baptist Church and current member of Faith Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Higingbottom Watts; sons, Clay (Pam) Watts and Ronnie Watts, both of Elgin, Stevie Watts of Columbia, Kevin (Amy) Watts of Blythewood; daughter, Karen (Chris) Beard of Rock Hill; step-daughters, Dondra (Greg) Parsons of Candor, NC and Denise (John "Buckshot") Warren of Leesville; 7 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 1 great grand-daughter; 6 step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Frank) Wilson of West Columbia, Lynda Palmer of Orangeburg; brothers, Daniel (Libby) Watts of West Columbia, David (Mary Jane) Watts of Swansea and LaVerne Watts of Gaston. In addition to his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Watts; four brothers; and two sisters.
The funeral service for Mr. Watts will be held 2 o'clock, Thursday, June 20th, at Faith Lutheran Church, with The Rev. Mitchell Evans and The Rev. Bill Ebener officiating. Burial will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens in Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at noon. Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 113 North Oak St, Batesburg-Leesville, SC 29006; Jackson Creek Baptist Church, 7778 Two Notch Rd, Columbia, SC 29223; or to the charity of one's choice.
