James Frederick Boney, 73, of Columbia, died Thursday, January 5, 2017. Born in Columbia, SC on May 24, 1943, he was a son of the late William E. Boney, Jr. and Beverly Locke Boney. Mr. Boney was a member of Shandon Baptist Church. He was an avid Gamecock fan, loved the outdoors and hiked the Appalachian Trail. Mr. Boney retired as a Senior Engineering Technician from SCANA after 40 years of service.

Surviving is his wife of 38 years, Betsy Hooks Boney; son, Peter Sean Harley; brother, William E Boney, III; and sister, Dixie Boney Shumpert (Luther). Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Boney was preceded in death by a brother, Jessie Locke Boney; and nephew, Adam Shumpert.

The service for Mr. Boney will be held 3 o'clock Tuesday, January 10th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., with the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock.

A inurnment service for Mr. Boney will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the Palmetto Lakeside Cremation Estate at Greenlawn Memorial Park
