James R. Bowlin, 88, of Columbia, died Sunday, April 19, 2015. Born June 5, 1926 in Surry County, NC he was a son of the late Elijah Bowlin and Minnie Holt Bowlin. Mr. Bowlin was a US Army veteran and served in both WWII and Korea.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Doris Bowlin; a son, Randy (Sandy) Bowlin; daughter, Carmen Bowlin all of Columbia; brother, Buck (Minnie) Bowlin of Bassett, VA; sister, Jewel Edwards of High Pointe, NC; grandchildren, Tara (Jason) McCoy of Conway, Elizabeth (Brian) Harvey of Hopkins, Jackson Bowlin of Columbia; great-grandchilden, Landon, Copeland and Gracelyn. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowlin was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 1 o'clock, Thursday, April 23rd at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Ext., Columbia.
