Joanna Charline Mayo, 79, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, September 9th, 2021. She was born in Long Beach, California, on February 13th, 1942, to the late Chester Alton Ceehorne (US Army Soldier) and Adine Elizabeth Ceehorne.
On November 4th, 1967, she married Romeo Belen Mayo (US Navy Sailor) in Agana Heights, Guam. She had a passion for cooking and cherished every moment spent with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She graduated from Midlands Bible Institute with a Bachelor of Arts and Biblical Studies. Mrs. Mayo loved serving the Lord and was a born-again Christian and faithful Capital City Baptist Church member.
Survivors include her children, Leonardo Berba of San Diego, CA, Mercedes Berba and Susan Economes (Rick), both of Columbia, Lourdes Casas (Sal) of El Paso, Texas, Romeo Mayo II of Charleston, SC, Philip Mayo, Laura Mayo (Chuck) and Charline Mayo, all of Columbia, and brother Reginald Alan Ceehorne of Oak Run, California; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by the love of her life Romeo Belen Mayo, September 7th, 2015, and three children, Mariano Berba, April 2nd, 1959, Mario Berba, February 6th, 1962, and Rudy Ceehorne, January 14th, 1966. Brothers, Justin Ceehorne, May 19th, 1942, Roland Ceehorne, February 5th, 1986; sisters Yvonne DeLoyola, October 26th, 2019, Genevieve Ceehorne, 1936, Patricia Lafferty, October 21st, 2016, Charlotte Lozares, May 24th, 2006, and brother, Chester Ceehorne Jr., January 15th, 2019.
The funeral service for Mrs. Mayo will be held at 12:30 pm., Thursday, September 16th, at Capital City Baptist Church, with Pastor Paul Monroe officiating. Burial will follow at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road.
