Leon M. Tobias, 88, of Saluda, died peacefully at home, Friday, March 11, 2016. Born in Clarendon County on October 24, 1927, he was a son of the late Curtis "Andrew" and Velma Wallace Tobias. When he was two-years-old, Leon moved with his family to the Edmund Community of Lexington County where he was raised. He worked until his retirement in Civil Service with the Training Aid Division, and he enjoyed serving as Scoutmaster in the College Place neighborhood for many years, teaching and leading campouts. Leon was a man of faith, and in his later years, he worshipped by TV, enjoying "In Touch" with Dr. Charles Stanley and the weekly messages by Dr. Wendell Estep of The First Baptist Church of Columbia. His hobby was working, and he always felt like he should be "doing something."
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Myra Shealy Tobias; sons, Mark Tobias of Saluda, and Jody (Lorrie) Tobias of Gaston; and three grandchildren, Greta, Sarah, and Justice. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Clay Shealy Tobias; four sisters; and two brothers.
A graveside service will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, March 13th at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia. The family will greet friends following the service.
"We loved you Dad, and will miss you."
