Mrs. Linda K. Vernon's Obituary

Columbia: Linda Kiser Vernon, 67, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, August 23, 2012. She was born on November 24, 1944 in Savannah, GA and reared in Miami, FL. She was the daughter of the late Randolph Lee Kiser and Eleanor Mae Davis Kiser, both of Key West, Florida.
Mrs. Vernon graduated from Palmetto High School, Miami, FL, in 1962. She attended the University of Florida where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and obtained a Master's degree in Nursing. She worked for several years at the University of Florida Hospital where she would meet her husband of 41 years, Dr. Charles Vernon. After marrying on April 24th, 1971 in Gainesville, FL, they moved to South Carolina where she devoted her time to her family and community. She is remembered by her friends and family as being an avid tennis and bridge player and a dedicated member of the Rockbridge Club, Daylily Garden Club, Iris Garden Club, the Columbia Garden Club, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, and the Social Survey. Additionally, she was involved in the ministry of St. Michael and All Angels' Church where she served as a member of the Altar Guild. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend who touched all who knew her with her charisma, generous heart, and gentle spirit.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Charles R. Vernon of Columbia; daughter, Elizabeth (Jay) Bell of Charleston, SC; son, Charles R. Vernon, Jr. of Florence, SC; brother, Randolph Lee (Rita) Kiser, Jr. of DeLand, FL; sister, Carol (David) Petty of Birmingham, AL; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Vernon was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Lee Vernon.

A memorial service for Mrs. Vernon will be held at 1 o'clock, Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at St. Michael and All Angels' Episcopal Church, 6408 Bridgewood Road, Columbia, SC, 29206 with The Rev. Dr. Susan Prinz and The Rev. Dr. Philip H. Whitehead officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service in Sturdevant Hall.
