Obituary

Louis Krasky, 86, of Columbia, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024. Born in New York City, New York on January 11, 1938, he was the son of the late Albert Krasky and Loretta Demarco Krasky. He was the loving husband to Annette Dennis Krasky; the couple wedded on Christmas day of 1984 and shared a long, successful marriage of 39 years.

Lou enlisted into the military fresh out of high school and proudly served the United States Navy. While serving, he learned how to shoot photography and little did he know, it would be the start to his remarkable story. Lou joined the AP Columbia Bureau in 1968. He has covered state, national and world events, including World Summits, two World's Fairs, the Reagan inauguration, space shuttle launches, PGA Tour events, George Rogers' Heisman Trophy season, stock car races and Hurricane Hugo. For 36 years, Lou graced newspapers and magazines across the country after one of those storied careers in which he photographed presidents and popes, dozens of heroes, and scores of just plain folk, and too many sports events to begin counting. His wonderful disposition and well-earned reputation preceded him, and he never failed to see a familiar face no matter where he went.

His free time was spent shooting Billiards, playing cards, or tagging along for golf outings with his wife. Not only was Lou a skilled photographer, but also a talented cook and fondly remembered for his famous Italian recipes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Louis Krasky (Lisa) and David Krasky (Terrie); stepdaughter, Sandra "Sandy" Sullivan Welborn (Skip); step grandchildren, Faith Dodgens, Megan Sullivan, Dennis Sullivan, and step great-granddaughter, MacKinzie Thomas; sister, Lorraine Levine; and niece, Sherri Levine. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepson, Richard Franklin Sullivan III; and brother-in-law, Sherwood Levine.

A reception will be held from 12 until 2 o'clock on Tuesday, February 13th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. A private interment will be held on a later date at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
