Margaret Sara Pate Shawen, 87, of Columbia, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Born July 29, 1929 in Fairfield County, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret McDonald Pate. Mrs. Shawen was a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Robert Michael Shawen (Alice) of Columbia; daughter, Barbara Ann Sears (David) of Pelion; six grandchildren, Sara Steele (David), Andrew Shawen, Bobby Sears (Candace), Tony Shawen (Carrie), Josh Sears and Avery Shawen; four great grandchildren; and sister, Elnita Larson of Virginia. In addition to her parents and her husband, Robert Lincoln Shawen, Mrs. Shawen is preceded in death by a son, David Eugene Shawen; two brothers, Keith and Jerry Pate; and sisters, Doris Lee and Judy Bude.

A memorial service will be held 1 o'clock, Monday, April 3rd, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd. Ext, Columbia. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crescent Hill Baptist Church, 2659 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29204.
