Michael John Mazurek, 61, of Columbia, died Tuesday, July 19, 2022. Born on February 20, 1961, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late John and Irene Mazurek.

After graduating from high school in 1978, Michael entered the Marine Corps as a percussionist in the Marine Corps Band, in which he served for eight years. He took enormous pride in being a Marine and counted those years as a Marine musician as one of the highlights of his life. He attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1990 with a bachelor degree in Mathematics and Applied Statistics. Michael worked in the information technology field for several firms, to include Blue Cross – Blue Shield, where he met his wife, Angie. His most satisfying professional position was his most recent, working for IBM as a Senior Cloud Solutions Architect.

Michael was a member of University (St. Paul, MN) and Wesconnett (Jacksonville, FL) Lodges, where he rose in rank and became a Master Mason. He especially took pride in his fundraising efforts supporting the work of Shriners Hospitals.

Survivors include his wife, Angela L. Mazurek; children, Peggy, Jennifer, Sophie, Jack, and Natalie; and brother, Charles "Chip" Mazurek.

The funeral service for Michael will be held at 11 o'clock on Friday, July 29th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock. Burial to follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road. Columbia, SC.
