Obituary

Rebecca Ann DuBard Ford Thompson, widow of Milton Thompson, and best known to those who love her as Becky, Aunt Beck or Beck-Beck, died Saturday at her home in Cedar Creek. Becky was 84. Services will be held Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 4 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church, conducted by the Revs. Charles Wilbanks and Murray Gibbons. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church Trustees' Fund, 180 Cedar Creek Rd, Blythewood, SC 29016.

Mrs. Thompson was the daughter of the late Lewis Adam and Winifred Charlotte Lever DuBard. She was born in the Cedar Creek Community and was a lifelong member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by her first husband, Ben L. Ford, and her second husband, Milton Thompson, as well as her brother, Kenneth A. DuBard.

Survivors include her brother, William L. DuBard and his wife, Margaret; nephews and nieces, including Michael DuBard and his wife, June, William L. DuBard Jr., Robert C. DuBard and his wife, Lori Hanson, Rebecca DuBard Grantland and her husband, John, Benjamin C. DuBard and his wife, Kristen, and Kenneth A. DuBard and his wife, Melanie; great nieces and nephews include Timothy and Kristi DuBard, Adam and Helen Rebecca DuBard, Grace, Liddy and William Grantland, Rose and Ella DuBard, and Andrew DuBard. Mrs. Thompson also is survived by a number of cousins and their children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Thompson graduated from Columbia High School and attended the University of South Carolina, where she studied art. She also attended Draughon's Business College. She was a talented and accomplished artist, noted principally for paintings of birds and other wildlife. For the majority of her career, Becky worked in The State newspaper newsroom as secretary to many executive and news editors. She retired after 40 years of service.

Becky's true love was the children in her life. Although she never had children of her own, she was an integral part of the lives of many, providing unconditional love and support to all.
