Cheif Petty Officer Richard Lynn Schad, US Navy, Ret., died Sunday, August 26, 2012. Born in Bloomington, IL, on March 11, 1926, he was a son of the late Howard Wayne Schad and Myrtle Iva Moore Schad. Mr. Schad was a 22 year veteran of the US Navy, having served in World War II and the Korean War, and was a member of Anchor Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Claudette Tucker Rease Schad; sons, Lee (Sandy) Schad of Charleston, Dennis (Debi) Schad of St. George and Dale (Tammy) Rease; daughters, Sharon (Victor) Gardner of Charleston, Sue (Clay) Pendarvis of St. George, Claudene (James) Wooten of Pensacola, FL, and Charlene Tewell of Greenville, SC, as well as ten grandchildren; and a half-brother, Clarence R. Haggard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Schad was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Schad; and sister, Betty Suttle.
The funeral for Mr. Schad will be held at 12:30 o'clock, Thursday, August 30th at Spears Creek Baptist Church, 116 Spears Creek Church Lane, Elgin. Interment will follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. Mr. Schad will be placed in the church at 11:30 o'clock. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Dr, Columbia.
