Mr. Robert Hughey Hutchinson was born in Conway, South Carolina, on Nov 25, 1944, to the late Clarence and Kathryn Hutchinson. He was raised in West Columbia, South Carolina, and graduated from Brooklyn-Cayce High School in 1963. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1967. He later earned his Master's Degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University.

Following his college graduation, he was commissioned and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1979. He flew T-2s, A-4s and F-4s as an instructor pilot, and he was carrier qualified. He was stationed at NAS Pensacola, FL, Iwakuni, Japan, Kingsville, TX, and Beaufort, SC.

On August 30, 1969, he married Sharon Ann Kennedy at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. In 1975, they were blessed with a son, Stephen Haron. Sadly, in 1979, Sharon passed away.
In 1982, Robert and Steve moved to West Berlin, Germany, where he flew Boeing 737s for Air Berlin. On September 21, 1984, he married Belle Fergin in West Berlin, Germany. They were blessed with four children, David Hughey, Sherilyn Kay, Katarina Marie, and Michael Julius.

In 1985, he was hired at America West Airlines in Phoenix, AZ. He flew Boeing 737s for the first half of his career, and then he flew Airbus A-320s the second half of his career, until he retired on Nov 25, 2004. During his retirement years, Robert opened his own Super Shuttle franchise because he said he enjoyed meeting and talking with people while navigating the streets of Arizona. He said it was like being an airline pilot on wheels!

He is a former member of the West Columbia Church of Christ, and was an active member of the Mesa Church of Christ in Arizona since 1988.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Hutchinson, his mother, Kathryn Hutchinson, and his first wife, Sharon Ann Kennedy. He is survived by his children Stephen, David, Sherilyn, Katarina, and Michael; his daughter-in-law, Melissa; and grandchildren Ashlyn, Brianna, and Olivia; Belle Fergin; his brother, Charles; and mother-in-law, Anna Porter

The funeral service for Mr. Hutchinson will be held at 2 o'clock, Sunday, December 15th at the West Columbia Church of Christ, 1701 Augusta Road, West Columbia, with T. J. Bolen and Ed Kelleher officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.
