Obituary

Rodney Redd, age 71, passed away in his sleep on November 15, 2014 at his home. Born in Columbia, SC, on October 7, 1943, Rodney was a son of the late Levins Redd and Mary Alice Mobley Redd. He, along with his son, actively ran Redd Flooring and Design Center until his retirement in 2013. Rodney's love for the outdoors was shown through his service to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources having received an appointment to the Law Advisory Board from Governor James H. Hodges. He and the late Judge Owens Cobb of Columbia, began the first chapter of Quail Unlimited where Rodney served for five years as State Chairman. He was also responsible for the first State Conservation Stamp print. Rodney, also known as "Pops", enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially the beach with his family and two grandsons. He was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, where he served as a trustee.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Cloaninger Redd; one son, Ernie (Kim) Redd; two grandsons, Hampton and Manning Redd, all of Columbia; his sister, Patsy (Gene) Slice; sister-in-law, Nan Wheeles (wife of Rodney's late brother, Ernest Redd); as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation at 9 o'clock, Tuesday, November 18th at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, followed by the funeral service at 10:30 o'clock officiated by Pastor Steve McCormick and Dr. Edward L. McWilliams. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Royal, Wehman Sieling, Neal Dawkins, Joe Edens, III, Michael Edens, Wally Shaw, Trey Cobb, and Hank Sieling. Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Powell, Walter Hunter, and Ray Ellisor. Memorials may be made to Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1005 Asbury Road, Columbia, SC 29209 or to Hammond School, 854 Galway Lane, Columbia, SC 29209. The family will be at the home of Ernie and Kim Redd, 24 West Tombee Lane. Shives Funeral Home is assisting the family.
