Terry passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016. She was diagnosed with cancer of unknown origin which had metastasize to her back and hips in December 2014.
She was born on November 28, 1944 in Queens, NY, to Frances Winter Caligiuri and Louis Joseph Caligiuri. Most of her younger life was spent on Long Island. On December 28, 1968, she married Bernie Gaudi. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Beirut, Lebanon, where Bernie was working for Westinghouse. They lived there eight years, during which time their two children, Tana Marie and Bernard Scott were born. They moved to Dubai, UAE in 1976. During their time overseas, Terry joined Bernie for quite a few Middle East trips.
The family was evacuated twice: once from Beirut, Lebanon, when the war broke out there, and again from Dubai, UAE when the American hostages were taken in Iran. Though Terry and the family did not live in Iran, they were close enough for Westinghouse to evacuate their American employees. The family then lived in southwestern Illinois for eight years, then were transferred to Columbia, SC.
Terry leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Bernie, two children-Tana, who lives in California and Scott, who lives in Ohio; four sisters – Linda Lavin, Marie Sidden, Annette Rizzi, Lisa Priemer, and their spouses; and mother, Helen (all without whom she could not have survived her diagnosis, treatment, etc.). Terry also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews – one of whom is her nephew and godson, Jason Lewandowski. A special "thank you" goes out to Tina Craps, a caregiver "extraordinaire" who was of enormous help to Terry in her end of life months. Her husband, Bernie has spent the last year(s) taking amazing care of Terry. Since Terry couldn't drive due to the narcotics she was taking, Bernie did all the driving, shopping and doctors' visits. Terry stated that she did not know what she would have done without Bernie's care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 o'clock, Monday, June 13th, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, with The Rev. Fr. Javier Heredia officiating. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will follow at St. Peter's Catholic Church Columbarium.
