Vera Miles Graddick, 91, of Blythewood, widow of the late James Boyd Graddick, died peacefully at home, Sunday, December 16, 2018. Born August 31, 1927 in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Willie Edward and Daisy Parker Miles. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1944 and went to work for the Internal Revenue Service for 9 years. After retiring from the IRS, she devoted her life to raising her children and working on the family farm. She was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where she served as financial secretary and sang in the choir. She recently joined Cedar Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was a longtime former member of the Woodmen of The World.
Survivors include her children, Jimmy (Joan) Graddick, Virginia (Jim) Stout, Barbara (Roger) Dodds, Anne (Alan) Branham, Alice (Tim) Mattox all of Blythewood, and Tommy (Sherri) Graddick of Elgin; as well as fourteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Willie Shumpert and Mildred Reid.
The funeral service for Mrs. Graddick will be held Wednesday, December nineteenth, at eleven o'clock, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church, 1920 Cedar Creek Rd, Blythewood. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery, 736 Camp Ground Rd, Columbia. A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from five until seven at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
