William D. "Bill" Plunkett, beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend to all, left us unexpectedly Wednesday morning, February 8, 2017.
Bill retired in 1988 after 22 years of service to his country in the Navy, as a pilot in the Army in Vietnam, and as a rescue pilot in the Coast Guard. He also served as a pilot for the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. He was a founding officer of the Blythewood Chamber of Commerce, he also served in the Blythewood Rotary Club.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Alida Lomas Plunkett; sisters, Gaye Guerre and Joanne Coble, both of Blythewood; nephew, David Coble (Allison); niece, Katie Wilken (Scott); great-nephews, William Coble of Elgin, SC and Miles Wilken of Phoenix, AZ; and great-niece, Elizabeth Coble of Elgin. Mr. Plunkett was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry Plunkett and June Schreiber Plunkett.
The funeral service for Mr. Plunkett will be held 11:00 o'clock, Saturday, February 11th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia with Rev. Paul Cochrane officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 10th from 5:00 until 7:00 o'clock at the funeral home.
