Woon Kai Sin-Chow was born in Guangdong, China on June 15, 1952, to the former Gau Kong Sin and Fung Chow of Hong Kong. She passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, in Columbia, South Carolina.
She was born into a business-owning family in mainland China shortly after the Communist Revolution. During the Cultural Revolution, she was sent to a Communist youth farm labor camp. After several attempts, she successfully escaped from Communist China and swam to then-British Hong Kong as a refugee. Eventually, she made her way to the US and ran a Chinese restaurant with her husband in Northeast Columbia called Jade Palace for over a decade. She was a very outgoing person - truly the life of the party - and had friends up and down the entire east coast and in several countries. She loved playing mah-jongg, socializing, and traveling. Most of all, she dearly loved her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandsons.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Yiu Yam Chow; her sons "Tom" Kwok Wah (Alice) of Sandy Springs, GA and "Tony" Kwok Liang ("Kelly" Shasha) of Flushing, NY; and grandsons, Aaron, Ethan, Tanner, and Arthur.
She is also survived by Sin family brothers, Bing Gin of Guangdong, China, Moon Gin of Columbia, SC, Yiu Gin of Hong Kong, and Siu Gin of Hong Kong; and Sin family sisters, Chan Kai of Guangdong, China and Mui Kai of Hong Kong.
A visitation will be held at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC 29223, on Tuesday, November 14th, from 5 until 7 pm.
