Alan G. Kampe, 68, of Columbia, formerly of Libertyville, IL, died peacefully, Monday, January 31, 2017. Born in Chicago on September 25, 1948, he was a son of the late George Albert and June Peterson Kampe. Alan graduated from the University of Denver, Class of 1970, and retired from Joseph M. Wiedemann Insurance in Arlington Heights. He was a member of St. Lawrence Episcopal Church. Alan and his wife Sue, moved to Columbia, SC in 2014 to be closer to their son, and for a warmer climate. Alan was an avid dog lover and Chicago sports enthusiast.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Susan Ishmiel Kampe; son, Andrew A. Kampe, (fiancé Julia Louise Sexton); and a sister, Nance Zeppos of Des Plaines, IL.
A service will be held 1 o'clock, Saturday, February 11th, at St. Lawrence Episcopal Church, with The Rev. Patricia W. Snickenberger officiating. The family will receive friends before the service beginning at noon. Inurnment will be in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church Columbarium, Kankakee, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Lawrence Episcopal Church, 125 W. Church Street, Libertyville, IL 60048 or to The Alzheimer's Assoc., 140 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 210, Columbia, SC 29210. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
