Barbara Hebner Lance, 81, of Columbia, died on Sunday, September 25, 2022. Born in Butler, Pennsylvania, on December 23, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Albert W. Hebner and Neva B. See Hebner. Mrs. Lance was a devoted and longtime member of Shandon Baptist Church and worked at G.T. Powers, Jr. and Associates for 39 years. She enjoyed cooking, baking, helping others and working in and around her yard. A true servant, Mrs. Lance was a volunteer with the Richland County Sherriff's department and active with Samaritan's Purse Project. She also enjoyed birdwatching, celebrating events with family and friends, attending all of her grandchildren's games/performances, Gamecock football and Atlanta Braves baseball.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane R. Karkhanis (Parag), of Southampton, NJ; grandchildren, Joseph Tyler Young, Zachary Austin Young, Neil Karkhanis and Grace Karkhanis; as well as her brother, Albert W. Hebner, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Lance; and daughter, Kimberly K. Layton.

The service for Mrs. Lance will be held at 3 o'clock, Monday, October 10th, in the Chapel of Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Dr, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
