Basil James Shaver, 90, passed away on December 23rd, 2022. He was born in his much-loved hometown of Lexington, NC on July 27th, 1932 to William Oscar Shaver and Ila Easter Shaver.

He graduated from X-Ray school at Bowman Gray and moved to Columbia to work at the Dorn Veteran's Hospital in the radiology department. Basil enjoyed his work there as well as the people with whom he worked. After retirement, he worked at the U.S.C. Student Health Center which was another enjoyable experience for him.

Basil is survived by his wife, Karen Parrott Shaver; daughter, Laura Shaver Hast (James Branham); grandson, Logan Hast (Kelley Busch); granddaughter, Ila Hast (Dylan Guida); sister, Linda Perez (Nelson) of Highpoint, NC; sister-in-law, Celia Jernigan (Bill); and many nieces and nephews in NC.

Basil is predeceased by his parents; his brother, Gene Shaver; sister, Frances Hufton; and nephews, Randy Hufton and Gerry Hufton. Basil will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.

A funeral service for Basil Shaver will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 2:30 pm at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext. Columbia, SC. Visitation will begin at 1 o'clock prior to the service. Burial will take place following the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd. Columbia, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making a memorial to Animal Mission of the Midlands or the American Cancer Society in Mr. Basil's honor.
