Obituary

Columbia - Betty Thatcher Cagle, 82, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017. Born in Chester, SC on August 31, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Alton Thatcher and Virginia McCarley Thatcher.

She was the mother to Denise Cagle of Columbia and Alton Cagle of Omaha, NE. She joins her husband, Edgar Wayne Cagle in heaven from a loving marriage of 57 years. Betty was a devoted wife that followed the Army family military assignments and adventures to Texas, Georgia, Alaska, Hawaii, and returning to South Carolina.

Betty's life experiences and enjoyments included being an active member with Ft. Jackson Order of the Eastern Star, with numerous roles culminating as Worthy Matron (for 4 years), and recipient of her 50-year pin for O.E.S. involvement. She and Wayne both were active members of Ebenezer Lutheran Church for many years and camping adventures in their RV (during retirement) with Square Dealers Camping Club and Masonic Lodge Camping (NCT Chapter #110) all thru the South-East USA. Betty and Wayne both were engaged in the advanced care for the elder with Hospice Care of the Tri-Counties.

During her marriage, she worked part time as an accountant to many small businesses in NE Columbia and as homemaker for the family thru all the years. Betty was an inspiration for all who knew her, a light of love to Wayne, Denise and Al. Her pet dog, Poppit, will miss her lap to rest on.
