Betty Louise Nave, 91, of Columbia passed away peacefully at Lexington Medical Center on September 7, 2022. Born in Zanesville, OH, on September 16, 1930, Betty finished high school and enlisted in the Women's Auxiliary Corps working in the military finance organization.
While serving she met and married the late SFC Clarence F Nave, Jr., (USA Ret) in Atlanta, GA. They had two children, a son Michael and daughter Pamela. The family settled in Columbia in 1959 and Betty took on the role of wife, mother, homemaker and later Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Betty cared deeply for her family and friends. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. When her children reached adulthood, she ventured out of the home, later working at the Bryan Center as assistant director of activities until the death of her husband. Betty was loved by her family and all who knew her and was an adored "Mema" by her 4 grandchildren, of whom she was extremely proud. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts. Betty was also a breast cancer survivor.
Betty is survived by her daughter Pamela Dykes (David), daughter-in-law Lynn Nave, grandchildren Tiffany Ingersoll, Jason Dykes (Kate), Matthew Nave (Lisa), and Lindsey Lambert. Great grandchildren Kaleb, Kaylie, Owen, Griffin, and Waylon. She is further survived by sisters Martha, Mary Kay, and Velma May all of Ohio.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence and son Michael E Nave. Her parents Frank and Mary Cohagan, brothers Buddy and Dwight all of Ohio and sister Carma Lee of Florida.
Betty was an active member of Woodfield Park Baptist Church where she was known as the "energizer bunny" for her involvement in church activities. Funeral services will be held at Woodfield Park Baptist Church on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, located 1834 Morninglo Lane, Columbia, SC 29223 with Pastor Jeff Phillips officiating. The family will receive family and friends at 10 AM prior to the service at 11 AM in the church sanctuary. Internment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbia. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty's honor to Woodfield Park Baptist Church.
The family would also like to thank the 8th Floor South nursing staff for their care and comfort extended to Betty and the family. We will never forget your kindness.
