Beulah Wenonah Bailey Gatch passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, in her home in Columbia, S.C. Born in June of 1915, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Bailey and Beulah Langdale Bailey of Canadys, S.C. She was one of thirteen children and married Irving J. Gatch at a young age. She ran a store first on Edisto Island, then Gloverville and finally Canadys, S.C. She was a former member of Canaan Baptist Church where she played the piano, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir until she moved to Columbia to be with her daughter and son-in-law in 1984. She was also a former member of Spring Valley Baptist Church, Dentsville Baptist Church, First Baptist of Ridgeway and finally a member of Woodfield Park Baptist Church. She loved her Lord and lived her life for Him.
Surviving are a daughter, Vermelle Gatch Parker and husband, Reverend Joe H. Parker; grandson, James Parker Rhea of Tallahassee, FL; granddaughter, Lisa Parker Moody and husband, Craig Moody, of Tallahassee; great granddaughters, Nicolette and Lauren Moody also of Tallahassee, FL; brothers, Roland Bailey, Jerry Bailey and wife, Marianne, of Columbia, SC; many nieces and nephews; as well as Debbie Beitler and her family: daughter, Rebecca Grace; and sons, David and Stephen Beitler, who have been as close as family. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Parker Bailey (Rita), David Bailey (Maggie/Ruth), Monnie Bailey (Rene), Laurie Bailey (Doris), Hamp Bailey (Mae), Rev. Reginald Bailey (Helen), Madison Bailey (Edith); and sisters, Marie Bailey Fender (Earle), Cammie Bailey Turner (Lloyd), and Rachel Bailey Hiott Coe (Fletcher/Raymond).
The funeral service for Mrs. Gatch will be held 11 o'clock, Friday, January 11, 2013, at Canaan Baptist Church, 12760 Augusta Hwy Walterboro, with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. The Reverend James Preveaux of Crestview Baptist Church, Orangeburg, SC, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock.
