David McCloy Steck, 92, of Columbia, died on Thursday, December 9, 2021. Born in Fredericksburg, VA, on December 26, 1928, he was the son of the late John Morris Steck and Mary Hunter McCloy.

He was a proud graduate from William and Mary College in 1950 with a degree in business. Mr. Steck, then served in the Army and was honorably discharged as a first Lieutenant. Mr. Steck's business career began with JC Penny Company. He retired over 25 years later to start a new career and family enterprise Alpine Sales, Inc. The wholesale countertop and cabinet supply distribution company flourished under his leadership. A prolific reader and lifelong learner, David was also an accomplished golfer having won several local club championship trophies. Mr. Steck was admired and respected by many and will be deeply missed.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Graube Steck. Survivors include his sons, Michael Steck (Amanda), Richard Steck, and Stephen Steck (Kappy); grandchildren, Kathryn Steck Foote (Matthew); great grandchildren, Madison Rose Foote, Charles Michael Steck, Michael Eugene Steck, Nicole Steck Styron (Travis), Andrea Steck Anclade (Brian), Robert Trace Cannon, and Adelaide Grace Cannon; and twin great-grandchildren are expected any day to Andrea and Brian Anclade.

The service for Mr. Steck will be held at 3 o'clock, Sunday, December 12th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. A private burial will precede the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park
