Edward (Fundy) Funderburk, 87, of Columbia, died on Sunday, April 2, 2023. Born in Greensboro, NC, on October 11, 1935, he was a son of the late Evy Ashley and Margaret Collins Funderburk. He was a direct descendent of von der Burg castle of Schloss. Mr. Funderburk was a graduate of UNC, veteran of the United States Navy (USS Hancock CVA-19) and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Ed retired from Colgate after 30 years of service in sales. During his retirement, there were many trips spent with his beloved wife traveling in their RV. He enjoyed spending time in his yard gardening, boating, photographing, woodworking, birding and being with family.
Survivors include his brother, Bill Funderburk of Pelham, AL; his daughters, Deborah McDonald (Bruce Holmes) of Irmo, Julie Baker (Mark) of White Rock, and Katie Morris, of Columbia; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and extended family member, Barry Boyette of Irmo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Clifton Funderburk; daughter, Teresa L. Funderburk; sons-in-law, Steve McDonald and Steve Morris; and sister-in-law, Shirl Funderburk.
The service for Mr. Funderburk will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, April 10th, at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David H. Lauten officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Jackson Hall. A private burial will precede the service in the churchyard of First Presbyterian Church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
