Mr. Jack Aaron Boggs's Obituary

Mr. Jack Aaron Boggs, 81, of Columbia, died Thursday, December 15, 2016, after his battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on July 4, 1935 in Easley, SC, Jack spent his formative years in Piedmont, SC. He was a son of the late Walter Benston Boggs and Bessie Mae Jones Boggs. Jack faithfully served our nation from 1952 until 1962 as a member of the US Navy, Naval Reserve, and the S.C. Air National Guard. Following his military service, he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics, and later completed his graduate studies in banking at the University of Wisconsin. Jack was a leader in the banking industry and was recognized for his leadership and entrepreneurial spirit, and was considered a pioneer in the development of electronic payments systems. He gave generously of his time to his community of Arcadia Lakes by serving as a member of the Town Council, Mayor, and Chief of Police. He also served as Treasurer of SC Federation of Older Americans and President of the Fairfield 600 Hunt Club. Jack was a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors; the Bank Administrators Institute; South Carolina Ducks Unlimited; Explorers Club; the Woodward Hunt Club; Sigma Delta Pi; and Chi Psi. He considered himself a Unitarian Universalist and he particularly enjoyed stamp collecting, hunting and fishing.

Jack is survived by his wife of 51 years, Isabel Thomas Brown Boggs; son, Edward C. "Skeeter" Boggs; daughter, Renee Chaplin Boggs Moriarity (Tom); grandchildren, Miriam Margaret Moriarity, Thomas Aaron Moriarity, and Jack C. Boggs; brother, Donald E. Boggs (Debbie); and sister, Georgia Boggs Barnett. He also loved his nieces, nephews and "hundreds" of close cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James "Buzzy" Boggs; and by his favorite dog, Cookie.

The service for Mr. Boggs will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, December 18th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Rd. Ext., with The Rev. Jennie Barrington officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Members of Columbia Ducks Unlimited are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers. At a later date a private burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212; or to the charity of one's choice.
