Jonathan Joseph McNaughton

Our hearts are heavy and our world infinitely sadder with the passing of our husband, son, brother, cousin and friend, Jonathan Joseph McNaughton, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. The son of James Robert McNaughton and Suzanne Louise McNaughton, Jon was known for his beautiful smile, his playfulness and his boundless love for family, friends, and his beloved wife and soul-mate, Laura DuBose McNaughton. Growing up on Lake Murray, Jon loved the water. He was fearless on a wakeboard and he could usually be found on a boat. Whether he was doing backflips on the wakeboard, camping with his friends, or taking Laura for a moonlight cruise on the “Knotpea,” Lake Murray was a favorite place for Jon. He was also known for his love of the outdoors. He loved riding motorcycles and ATVs, hunting and his guns, camping on Lake Jocassee and playing disc golf. Known as the Turtle-Whisperer, he had a talent for catching turtles and never saw a snake he didn’t try to catch. Jon was born April 13, 1982 in Lakewood, California and was a graduate of Dutch Fork High School and Midlands Tech. He worked with his family, at the family business, Temperature Control Service. He met Laura, the love of his life, and they married November 7, 2009. Left to cherish his loving memory are his parents; his wife; his sister, Elisabeth Joanna Lawson and her family; brother, Michael Andrew McNaughton and his family; sister Molly S. Cook and her family; father-in-law, E. Bruce DuBose III; mother-in-law and her husband, Geneva N. and J. Doyle Loftis; brother-in-law, Matthew B. DuBose; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charlotte and Rodger McNaughton and Reta Bauer and Louis Korovich. The funeral service for Jon will be held 3 o’clock, Sunday, September 22nd, at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, 2721 Dutch Fork Rd, Chapin, with The Rev. Dr. J. Ben Sloan officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 o’clock, Saturday evening, in the church fellowship hall.
