Lake Smith Morgan, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 4, 2014. She was born on December 1, 1920, in Woodruff, SC, where she lived most of her life. She retired from textile work with Reeves Bros. at Mills Mill in Woodruff. After her husband's death in 1979, she lived independently at her home in Woodruff, SC, where she took pride in her home, yard, and flowers. For many years, she worked in the Beginner Department in her church and delivered recorded Sunday School Lessons to shut-ins. In January 2013, in declining health, she went to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Columbia, SC.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eddie Lee Morgan, and five siblings. She is survived by her children, Marlene (Bobby) Chandler of Columbia, and Larry (Donnie) Morgan of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Jeff (Celinda) and Greg Chandler, Kerry Morgan and Shannon Lange; three great grandchildren Taylor, Madison, and Logan Chandler; also, her sister, Nell Gambrell; and nieces and nephews.
Lake was a born again Christian, accepting Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1949, and was a member of Mills Mill Baptist Church in Woodruff. Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die." John 11: 25 & 26, The Holy Bible. Her church changed its name to Cornerstone Baptist Church and relocated to 9480 Highway 221, Woodruff, SC 29388.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 11 o'clock, Saturday, March 8th, at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the funeral service officiated by Rev. Doug Huntsinger beginning at noon. Interment will follow at Woodruff Memorial Cemetery. Members of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.
