Mrs. Marianne B. Anelli

Marianne Baron Anelli, 85, of Columbia, SC, beloved mother, grandmother and adored wife of the late Angelo James Anelli, left us Thursday, March 9, 2016. Born March 4, 1931, in Forest City, PA, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Baron and Marianna Bawiec Baron. Marianne grew up on her family’s farm in Pleasant Mount, PA, graduating from Forest City High, Class of 1948. She was a cheerleader, played basketball, and was May Queen of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Marianne then worked for defense contractor, Daystrom Instrument, Archibald, PA, becoming a supervisor. A blind date in 1955 brought her the love of her life, Angelo James Anelli. They married in 1959. Marianne’s No. 1 job was “Mom”. Her daughters were her life. She felt truly blessed to be able to stay home and care for her husband and three girls. Marianne was “Mom” not just to her own children, but her children’s friends and schoolmates, who remember her fondly. Marianne loved life, laughter and playing cards. She enjoyed making others welcome and happy. Marianne loved music, especially Polkas, and excelled at the accordion. The Anelli home was a social hub for friends, family. There was frequently a party at the Anelli’s. She cherished her time on the phone with her siblings, children, and friends, keeping up with events and spreading the news. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann Anelli (Jose) Santos of Great Falls, VA, Bernice Anelli (Rick) Kernan of Blythewood, Andrea (Shane) Rast of Summerville, SC; grandchildren, Ricky and Faith Kernan, Caroline and Madison Rast. The last of nine children, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph, John, Paul, Charlie, Adam, Mickey, Eleanor, and Sophie; as well as her parents and husband. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 o’clock, Monday, March 14th, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Rd, Columbia. Burial will follow at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, with the Rosary recited at 4 o’clock. Following the Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers at Fort Jackson, family and friends are invited to a reception at the Kernan’s home in Blythewood.
