Molly Ledbetter Adams McColman, age 84, of Columbia, South Carolina died April 24, 2015, Mrs. McColman was born in rural Marlboro County, South Carolina, near Gibson, North Carolina, on June 22, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Claude Jeptha Adams and Eva Ledbetter Adams. Mrs. McColman was a graduate of Gibson High School and attended Woman's College of The University of North Carolina. She is a graduate of Columbia College. She was employed with South Carolina Electric and Gas Company for 37 years as a Paymaster in the Payroll/Accounting Department.
Mrs. McColman was a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church for 32 years, a member of the Medlock-Friendship Sunday School Class, church newsletter committee, volunteer secretary in the church office, and church kitchen. Ms. McColman was also a volunteer for Palmetto Health Baptist Hospice. Her hobbies included painting, drawing, and crocheted. She loved playing the piano. Her other hobbies were spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McColman was married to her best friend for life, Richard Herndon McColman, on May 9, 1951. Their marriage served as a remarkable example to all those that were privileged to observe their devoted relationship over the years. Mrs. McColman was predeceased by her husband in 1997.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. McColman was predeceased by a daughter, Rebecca Buck, sisters, Elaine Adams Taylor and Mary Adams Brown, Ann Adams Marsh and brothers, Richard Marion Adams and Claude Jeptha Adams Jr.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Karen McColman of Columbia, SC; and son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kim McColman, Jr. of Hillsborough, NC; grandchildren, Misty McColman Blethen (Kenneth Ray) of Pelion, SC; a grandson, John Carpenter IV of Asheville, NC; and granddaughter, Helen McColman of Blythewood, SC; two great-grandchildren, Samson Trader (Brianna) of West Columbia, SC, Ricky F. Rhodes Jr. of Pelion, SC; and a great great-granddaughter, AnnaLynn Trader.
A visitation will be held at Shives Funeral Home at 7600 Trenholm Road Extension, Columbia SC 29223, from 5 until 7 o'clock, Tuesday April 28, 2015. Funeral services will be held at Trenholm Road Methodist Church, 3401 Trenholm Road, Columbia SC 29204, on Wednesday April 29, 2015 2 o'clock, with graveside at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Richland County Sheriff's Department and Medlock-Friendship Sunday School class.
