Richard Styron, 72, passed away at his home on the evening of April 1, 2023. Born in Portland, Maine, although spent all of his life in Columbia, South Carolina, he was a son of the late William Theadore Styron and Kathryn Rising Styron. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a degree in education, but he found his true calling as a designer at Ethan Allen and Haverty's.

Richard was an avid gardener and took pride in his yard. He also had a great love for his dogs, of which there were many over the years. The church was important in his life, and he loved being part of the senior exercise classes at St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

Richard is survived by his husband of 37 years, Thomas L. Knight; two younger brothers, Bobby Styron and Thomas Styron; brother-in-law, Terry L. Knight; sister-in-law, Teresa Knight Potchebski; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

The service for Richard will be held at 10 o'clock on Tuesday, April 11th, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
