Sylvia Hausman Stacy, 87, of Columbia, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on June 22, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Lena Seeger Hausman. Widow of the late Bruce Stacy, she traveled the US and Europe with him while he served in the US Army. Mrs. Stacy retired from Aetna and then worked at the First Presbyterian Church for 18 years. She had been a resident of Laurel Crest Retirement Community for the past seven years. Mrs. Stacy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and previously of Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was delighted to call herself a Messianic Jew and looked forward to seeing her Savior, Christ.
She is survived by her nephew, Larry Chenkin; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Jena Chenkin; their children, Samuel and Sarah Chenkin; nephew, Paul Chenkin; his children, Daniel and Timothy Chenkin. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Hausman; and sister, Reba (Isadore) Chenkin.
The funeral service for Mrs. Stacy will be held 12 o'clock, Saturday, January 30th at First Presbyterian Church, 1324 Marion Street, Columbia, with The Rev. L. Craig Wilkes and Joseph Crump, Chaplain of Laurel Crest, officiating. Interment will follow in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Laurel Crest Endowment Fund, 100 Joseph Walker Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169. A special thanks to the staff of Laurel Crest for their love and care.
