Why Us?

Experience, professionalism, compassion, and empathy.

Why Us?

While some just see the end of a loved one’s life as a time for grief and mourning, we prefer to think of it as a time for reflection, appreciation and even celebration. This is evident in everything we do, from the way we conduct our services to the amenities we choose to offer. We are family owned funeral home dedicated to honoring, sharing and preserving your amazing and inspirational stories.

Learn about our legacy.

Since 1932 our funeral home has prided itself as being a leader in service to the families of Columbia. Over the years, Shives Funeral Home has seen the city change and grow, yet our commitment to outstanding service and caring for people has never changed.

The funeral home, built in a beautiful, colonial style, is located near downtown Columbia. Originally founded and operated by the Talbert family, the funeral home was purchased in 1967 by William W. Shives. Mr. Shives continued in the tradition of providing exceptional care for the families of our area, and over the next 30 years, he completed major renovations and additions to the funeral home facility.

In 2012, E. Randolph Shives, III purchased the funeral home and later expanded with a second location on the Trenholm Road Extension to continue the dedication to excellent service.  Following this expansion and growth, Randolph successfully continued to build the firm and assist his staff with maintaining the reputation and values held since its founding.

Today, the funeral home is owned and operated by J. Kelcey Dickinson and Robert B. (Bobby) Raines, who served under Randolph's direction in order to continue the rich tradition of providing the same unparalleled service. Kelcey and Bobby, along with their professional staff, and council of the Shives Family continue the foundation that was established over 90 years ago.

We treat all families with the highest integrity and just as if they are a part of ours. We invite you to allow us to show you how our family can care for yours.
