1SG Jerry A. Miller, US Army (Ret.), 83, of Columbia, died on Friday, April 25, 2025. Born on April 8, 1942, in Fischers Hill, Virginia, he was the son of the late Raymond G. Miller and Mary Virginia Rhodes Miller.
1SG Miller honorably served his country for over 23 years in the US Army. During the Vietnam War, he received many decorations for his valor, including the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Star Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Following his military career, he was employed for more than 20 years with Pontiac Foods. 1SG Miller was an avid sports fan who especially enjoyed cheering on the University of South Carolina Football team and Women's Basketball team. His most cherished moments in life revolved around spending time with his family. 1SG Miller's greatest joy was being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Aurelia Tapia Miller; children, Tammy Miller Todd (Troy) and Jerry William Miller (Lisa); grandchildren, Gabrielle Watson, Kassidy Todd, Seth Lee Miller (Armoni), Kimel Miller, Kayla Miller, Jayda Miller, and Jayden Miller; great grandchildren, Emma Watson, Robbie Watson, Hayden Watson, Oaklynn Miller, and Liam Todd; brothers, Paul Miller and Cecil Miller, as well as his sister, Judy Hudson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jason Scott Miller and several siblings.
The service for 1SG Miller will be held at 1:30 o'clock, Wednesday, April 30th, at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2668 Highway 1 South Elgin, SC with Pastor Addison Hamrick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at 3 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC
The family will receive guests prior to the service in the church beginning at 12:30 o'clock.
