1SG Richard Albert Granger, US Army (Ret.), of Las Vegas, NV, died on Saturday, January 6, 2024. Born on August 3, 1948, in Baltimore, MD, he was a son of the late Wilbur Arville Granger and Anna Mae Brandt.
1SG Granger proudly served his country for more than 20 years in the US Army. During his enlistment, he was a member of the 18th Cavalry Regiment where he received many commendations. Following his military career, 1SG Granger's protective nature led him to a civilian career in security services at the MGM Grand Casino and the former Barbary Coast Casino in Las Vegas, NV. He loved his family, his country, Motown music, old John Wayne movies, the Baltimore Orioles, and the Dallas Cowboys. 1SG Granger never passed up an opportunity to joke around and brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Matthew Sean Granger (Beth) of Columbia; grandson, Sean Alton Granger; sisters, Ruth Jones and Lillian Atkinson; and his stepdaughters, Melissa Marchioni and Michele Brinkley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Spike Granger, David Granger, Daniel Granger, and Susan Silate.
The memorial service for 1SG Granger will be held at 1:30 o'clock, Friday, March 1st at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC with Rev. Richard Fleming officiating. The burial will follow at 3 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd., Columbia, SC.
