1SG Paul Terry Daniels, US Army (Ret.), 77, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, June 4, 2023. Born August 20, 1945, in Bayshore, California, he was a son of the late Paul Jones and Betty Vaughn Daniels.
1SG Daniels honorably served his country for more than 22 years until his retirement in 1989. During his enlistment, he received many commendations, including, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts, National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Unit Citation, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation, as well as many others. Following his military career, 1SG Daniels was employed for Spring Valley Ace Hardware for over 18 years. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in retail management. 1SG Daniels enjoyed collecting Gibson tractors and also had an old US Army truck from 1953. He was a member of the Military Vehicle Collectors of South Carolina and enjoyed traveling to tractor shows.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Rita A. Daniels; daughters, Dorothy Ann Smith (Edward) of Elgin and their children, Dylan and Morgan, Terry L. Millholland (Patrick) of New Salisbury, IN and their children, Steven and Stephanie. He also leaves behind his sisters, Dorothy Jackson (Owen), Betty Sue Whitford (Ken), and Nancy Radford; sister-in-law, Sherry Daniels, as well as his former sister-in-law, Loretta Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas "Tommy" Daniels, Craig Daniels, George Daniels, and Jimmy Daniels.
The graveside services for 1SG Daniels will be held at 3 o'clock, Friday, June 9th at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.
