Mrs. Anne Walker Milliken

Anne Walker Milliken, 75, of Columbia, died on Friday, November 5, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC, on January 22, 1946, she was a daughter of the late John Will and Annie Lee Moore Walker. Mrs. Milliken graduated from Dreher High School, attended Mary Baldwin College and was a 1968 graduate from the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Delta Delta Sorority. She was a schoolteacher in her early years. Mrs. Milliken was a Horseback enthusiast who competed in combined training events with her Blythewood friends all over the Southeast. She enjoyed playing Tennis, Gardening, her Bridge Clubs and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of The Columbia Ball and The Assembly Ball. She was also a member of the Sandlapper Garden Club, The Exchange Book Club and an avid Gamecock Fan, especially USC women’s basketball. Mrs. Milliken was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. As a devoted wife to her husband, Tom, together they enjoyed their time with friends at Forest Lake Club, Caroliniana Ball, The Quadrille Club, The Cotillion Ball and Pine Tree Hunt Club. Their favorite club, The Fin Feather and Fur Club consisted of close friends who have gathered quarterly over the past 40 years to enjoy companionship and to eat wild game dishes. Survivors include her husband, Thomas (Tom) Otto Milliken, Sr.; sons, Thomas (Tombo) Otto Milliken, Jr. (Anna), William (Bill) Franklin Milliken, II, and John (Walks) Walker Milliken (Caroline), all of Columbia; grandchildren, Thomas (T) Otto Milliken, III, William Arthur Milliken, Anne (Lesesne) Milliken, and Mae Walker Milliken, all of Columbia; sisters, Elizabeth Walker Cate (Billy), of Eastover, and Sarah Walker Roth (Buddy), of Columbia; sisters-in-law, Pam Milliken Reed, Helen Nicholson Milliken, and Susan Milliken Umbach (Rick); nieces and nephews, Clark Reed (Betsy), Pamela Pope (Joe), Elizabeth Werntz (Cam), James Milliken, Jr (Mary Dameron); Nan Sammataro (Sam), Davies Merry (Theresa), Grace Parsons, SuSu Barden (Daniel), Alex Umbach (Emily), Will Umbach (Jessica), Walker Cate, Nilla Hesley (Sam), Elizabeth Grove (Pendleton), William Roth (Ann Katherine), Davis Roth, Carrie O’Quinn (Brian), Robert Thompson; and her 7 Godchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Milliken was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-Law, Nancy and Bill Milliken; and her brother-in-law, Jim Milliken; as well as special family friends, Jean and Georgia Thompson. Following a private service of committal, a Memorial Service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, at 3 o’clock, on Tuesday, November 9th. The Rev. Cannon Patsy Malanuk will officiate. The family invites you to a reception at their home, 21 Cedarwood Lane, following the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. The family would like to especially thank Anne Courtney Miller and other close friends for their love, support and friendship to Anne and the Milliken Family. The Family would also like to thank Dr. William Yarbrough, Dr. Rob Malanuk and the nurses and staff at Lexington Medical Center Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for their special care and attention during her time at the Hospital as well as her extended family and many, many friends who have been so supportive.
