Born May 29, 1949, in Danville, VA, she was a daughter of the late James Harlan Halford and Pauline “Polly” Devine Luke. Betty spent her younger years in Greensboro, NC and moved to Columbia when she was 11 years old. Throughout her career, Betty worked in various capacities in the Columbia area. Her most rewarding position was as a court liaison for The Domestic Abuse Center. She was a member and served on the board of directors for the Daughters of the American Revolution, USC Chapter and the Columbia City Ballet. Betty also volunteered her time at various nursing homes in the area. Betty loved doing needlepoint and sharing her State Fair Blue Ribbon winning pickles and preserves with family and friends. She was a Christian and member of Incarnation Lutheran Church. Until her decline in health, Betty was very active in church activities. Betty is survived by her son, Richard Brooks Jones, who she considered her greatest blessing. She is also survived by her brother, Alexander Luke (Erin); and sister Karyl Kaye Halford Miller; her aunt, Brenda Devine Stalvey (Rob) and many beloved nieces and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James David Halford and grandparents David Fulton and Myrtle Craig Halford and Claude Alexander and Ira McGaha Devine. The funeral service for Betty will be held 11 o’clock Saturday, April 17th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC with Pastor Joseph Lindloff officiating.
