Christine Woods Murphy, 87, of Columbia, died Friday, January 7, 2022. Born November 3, 1934, in Augusta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Reamer Sampson and Evelyn Louise McKenzie Woods. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert D. Murphy on June 18, 2016.

She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, where she previously served as the church secretary. Mrs. Murphy relished every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, son and daughter and sister. She also enjoyed attending her monthly ladies supper club outings. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as the town clerk for the Town of Arcadia Lakes. In honor of her many years of dedicated service, the Town of Arcadia Lakes renamed their visitor center the "Christine W. Murphy Welcome Center".

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Murphy Driscoll (Larry) of DeRidder, LA; son, Robert Michael Murphy (Alison, daughter (in-law)), of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Matt Murphy and Nikki Murphy; as well as her sister, Gloria Risher, of San Angelo, TX.

The funeral service for Mrs. Murphy will be held privately. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
