Jeannie (Clara Jean) Suggs, 77, of Columbia, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022. May Day was her favorite spring holiday in which she would create May Day Baskets with her girls to share with neighbors and friends. Jeannie was a truly creative person who loved making everything and everyone beautiful and was truly a child at heart. She was loved and adored by her large German family of 7 brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews that called her “Aunt Peanut.” Born on April 6, 1945, in Ames, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Josie Turner Hornbacher. Jeannie was a member of Christian Life Assembly in Columbia, SC. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Gary Wayne Suggs; daughters, Emily Callison-Heilbraun and her husband Sid, and Auretha Callison-Davis and her husband Nate; sisters, Millie Bates, Erma Larson, Joyce Hadley; and brother, Vernon Hornbacher. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Billy Hornbacher, Daniel Hornbacher, and James Hornbacher. The funeral service for Jeannie will be held on Thursday, May 5th, at 1 o’clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12 o’clock at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. The decorations will be some of Jeannie’s beautiful artwork and favorite things.
