Mr. Donald Michael Allen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Donald Michael Allen, 77, of Columbia, died Monday, May 11, 2020. Born on April 28, 1943, in Miami, Florida, he was a son of the late Joseph Emmett and Thelma Pope Allen. Mr. Allen was a US Navy veteran that honorably served his country during the Vietnam era. He was a graduate of Spring Hill College and earned graduate credits from the University of Tennessee. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years in telecommunication sales. A lifelong devout Catholic, he was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church. Mr. Allen was a loving husband, father, grandfather “Grand Pa”, and uncle. In his youth, he was a baseball pitcher and enjoyed participating in various sports, including, golf, tennis, and ping pong. He always kept abreast of current politics and enjoyed watching college sports. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Hannah Allen; son, Michael Edward Allen (Edinia) of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter, Savannah Rose Allen of Knoxville, TN; sister, Martha Doerr of Dania Beach, FL; as well as his niece, Candace Doerr of Dania Beach, FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Samantha Ariel Allen and his brother, Jack Allen. A Mass of Christian Burial by invitation only for Mr. Allen will be celebrated at 10 o’clock, Wednesday, May 20th at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with Father Alexander McDonald officiating. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will be held privately at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia, SC 29223.
