SFC Donald Hagan, US Army (Ret.), 79, of Columbia, died Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Born April 18, 1942, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Harry Hagan, Sr. and Mary A. Hagan. SFC Hagan was a US Army retiree that honorably served his country for over 22 years. During his enlistment, he received many awards and commendations: National Defense Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Meritorious Service Medal, as well as several Parachutists badges. Following his military career, he was employed at Fort Jackson in a civilian role as a HVAC Technician. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Gisela W. Hagan; daughter, Joanna Hagan Kerbs (Joseph) of Lexington; son, Helmut Hagan (Sue) of Columbus, OH; and sister, Mildred Kilgore of Kirkwood, PA. PopPop is fondly remembered by 4 grandchildren, Jordin (Eric), Ryan (Ciara), Jake (Taylor) and Josh; and 6 great grands, Emersin, Everleigh, Penelope, Camilla, Holt and Brandt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 6 brothers. The graveside service for SFC Hagan will be held at 12 o'clock noon, Monday, January 24th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the graveside service from 10:30 until 11:30 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
