Mrs. Dorothy Alleene Kracht

Dorothy Alleene Petty Kracht was born on October 1, 1946 in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Thomas and Nell Petty. She died on December 21, 2020 in her childhood home overlooking the Broad River. Alleene grew up in Columbia with her brother,Tom. Their family’s involvement at Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University) enveloped them in a large community of faith. She attended Ben Lippen High School (Asheville) Class of ‘64. She met her husband Doug at Columbia Bible College (now Columbia International University). After marriage, their missionary career with World Team began in Jamaica, where they served together at the Jamaica Bible College. They later worked with a church-planting team in Madrid, Spain. In 2019, Columbia International University named Alleene and Doug Alumni of the Year. In August, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Alleene was a skilled teacher, guiding students with learning differences and supporting them toward academic success. In Sunday school classes and in women’s circles at First Presbyterian Church, she taught the Scriptures she loved, always demonstrating how they had impacted her life. She was known as a generous friend. Her kind words, either spoken or written, in hundreds of her timely notes, encouraged others. As a woman of passionate faith, she prayed faithfully for many. She lived full of faith, hope and love. She is survived by her husband, Douglas Edward Kracht; children, Saranell Hartman (Tim) and Jeremy Kracht; three grandchildren, Simeon, Elliana and Jeremiah, whom she dearly loved, and her brother, Thomas Macy Petty (Margaret). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church, designate World Missions or The Kaleid Project (www.thekaleidproject.com), a women’s discipleship network. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Columbia at 2 o’clock, on Wednesday, December 30th, 2020. The family will greet friends following the service in The Atrium of Jackson Hall. All are welcome to attend. Masks are required and measures for socially distancing are in place.
